The Red Sox have reportedly signed former Angels starter John Lackey to a 5 year $85M deal, according to both SI.com and RedSox.com.
It’s a surprising move considering the biggest holes on the team are at Left Field, DH, and potentially 3rd base. Makes me wonder who Theo is thinking about jettisoning? Clay? Wake?
My money would be on Buchholz going in a trade for a power hitter. And I can’t say I’m too happy about it.
But, Lackey does add a third potential ace to the rotation. In 2009, he made 27 starts, going 11-8 with a 3.83 ERA. $85M for five years feels a little hefty, if I’m gonna be honest.
