Way back at the beginning of the ’09 season, The Red Sox Dirt Dawg posted a story about the World Series Champion 2011 Red Sox team.
As usual, he has insanely good long term vision – not in the WS win prediction, but in the notion that the ’10 team would have too many holes to be a serious contender in the AL East. Over the course of the next two to three weeks I’m going to break down the team on a position by position basis for the 2010 season.
And it’s not pretty. The potential line up going into the Hot Stove League is full of questions and older players who will have a difficult time competing in the AL East over 162 games.
Our beloved Red Sox fell apart after the All Star Break. Any fan who watched on a regular basis had to see the disjointed play, the dead bats and the walking wounded mentality that permeated almost the entire roster. From ‘Tek’s pathetic bat to Papelbon’s drama to Lowell’s aging hip to Bay’s potential departure, the 2010 season is potentially a lame duck in the making.
Will it be a year that the Sox attempt to rebuild and reassess their prospects or will Theo make some of his typical savvy and daring trades during the off season to fill in the potentially huge gaps? There are some potentially great trades that could be made to slap some spackle on the load bearing walls, and I have faith in Theo.
Let’s talk about what happens next…
