Gear Up For Red Sox Baseball

No Way

Quantum Of Solace Japan Premiere

I can’t believe it. And I’ve never been so happy to be absolutely wrong.

Dice-K’s first start in almost 3 months was absolutely dominant, beyond the wildest dreams of Red Sox Nation. He pitched for 6+ innings throwing 93 pitches, giving up only 3 hits, and striking out 5. That’s right. Let me repeat this so you’re sure you read it right.

Daisuke Matsuzaka struck out 5 batters. 5 Angels batters, including Guerrero.

I am in awe.

And so was Fenway. Last time he came off the mound after a start he was booed. And rightfully so. In June, Dice left the mound after 4+ innings and giving away eight hits and six runs. The Sox went on to win 4-1 in the series opener.

What was most impressive was the style change. Dice was actually pitching aggressively through the strike zone. This is a complete departure from his normal nibbling-the-corners style which has aggravated so many fans. In tonight’s game, Dice looked like he had confidence and command. Physically, he no longer has the CC Sabathia Jr. body type. He thinned out and his ability to pitch well into the 6th is a testament to the Sox training program in Florida.

Tonight’s game was an ALDS preview. The Angels will take the AL West, but the Sox will take the ALDS like Kanye West took that microphone from Taylor Swift. The only difference is there’s actual talent in the MLB. The best news is what this new and improved Dice means for the post season. Facing the Yankees doesn’t seem like such a daunting prospect with four healthy, tuned up starters.

And I am happy to say, Dice-K finally looks like the starter the Sox need him to be.
