42 year old Tim Wakefield is headed for a 15 day DL stint to try and recover from a twinge in his lower back. What do you want? The guy is 42 and pitching in the majors.
I said in my last post that these things have a way of working themselves out, and the problem of too much starting pitching is never really a problem. Clay Buchholz will come back up from Pawtucket and pitch tomorrow against the Rangers.
I couldn’t be happier. We’re playing flat since the break, and Buchholz might be the spark we need to get out of what feels like the beginning of a slump. On top of that, we’re playing Texas right now, and our record against the AL West is paltry at best: 8-14 going into today’s game. Clay is in the dugout watching and I think he’s chomping those sun flower seeds so manically because he’s tired of watching and wants to pitch.
I’m anxious to see how Clay does for a couple weeks in the Show after last season’s disappointments. I think his start against Toronto put a lot of fears to rest, and I think he’ll be a perfect addition to balance out the older Smoltz and Penny. Smoltz look abysmal yesterday.
And of course, the Yankees have tied up the Division. They don’t seem to lose unless they play us or the Angels. Go figure.
